Three books that prove in stories anything can happen!
I liked this one but wasn’t sure if younger readers would ‘get it’. They did and it was funny to see the mix of reactions from laughter to perplexity. At one storytime a four year old said to me with a ‘what in the world’ expression, “No one would actually tear their house down because they heard a noise.” Exactly.
I have a soft spot for this book. The illustrations are child-like and fun and it brings to life the childhood dream of being able to wish for whatever you want.
This book does something I can’t recall being done in a picture book. The adorable aliens speak their own language of made-up words. Like ‘taypo’ instead of tape, ‘schmackle’ instead of break. Such a clever and original take on a story about friends.
